After a week-long stay in Rio Grande, we checked out of the hotel in the morning and drove west to San Juan to check in for our last night in Puerto Rico at an apartment in the Ocean Park area. Francisco then came to pick us up, and took us into Old San Juan. We were really looking forward to this, as everyone we had met and talked to on our trip told us how cool the San Juan’s historic section was. And were they ever right!
From the blue cobblestone streets to the old buildings, we were taking everything in, and truly enjoying the beautiful day. Francisco knows alot about the city, so he was the perfect tour guide as we walked around town and over to Castillo San Felipe del Morro, one of two ancient forts in the city. The views from the fort along the shore were breath-taking, and the history behind the fort was pretty incredible too. We also visited the famous Hotel El Convento, where we had a few drinks and dinner later in the evening. As the sun was setting, we took a nice walk along the fortress walls that surround the city. Unfortunately, dinner was our least favorite part of the day as the paella was quite the let-down.
