Hooray For Hollywood

Since I had to work on Saturday, I took it easy most of the day, but I made up for it on Sunday by going to Hollywood…

Hollywood. FLOkay, so it was Hollywood, Florida. And it’s only 20 minutes away. And even though it’s not the same as the famous California city, it’s still very nice and has many cool attractions…

Anne Kolb Nature Center at West Lake ParkLike at my first stop – Anne Kolb Nature Center at West Lake Park. This is one of my favorite parks to go to in south Florida, not only because of the winding boardwalk that borders scenic West Lake, or the 68-foot observation tower that overlooks the park and its surrounding areas, or the nature center that features an exhibit hall with several aquariums, including one with a beauitful small nurse shark – it’s also a great place to start a bike ride over to Hollywood Beach, where I rode up and down its famous (and very packed) boardwalk. Luckily, I didn’t hit anyone but there were a few close calls. I had my trusty camera, of course, and snapped quite a few pictures, especially of the gorgeous blue ocean. After spending a few hours biking along the beach, I rode to the south side of West Lake Park, which offers a great place to go picknicking and canoeing (which I’ve done a few times there).

Hollywood BeachI then drove to the historic downtown section, where they were having their annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival. Since I was unaware of this, I forgot to wear green, and now I’m covered in welts from all the pinches I got…ouch! I walked around this quaint area for a while, including the newly renovated ArtsPark, which features a beautiful fountain among the nicely landscaped grounds. As the sun started to set, my fleeting brush with fame also vanished, and yet another beautiful day has been conquered. But I will go back to Hollywood soon, and maybe my luck will change next time…as I will remember to wear green!

  1. Wow! If in a single afternoon you can have this much fun, I can’t even imagine what you could do with a whole week! Thanks for sharing. I loved the pictures of the ocean. It cheered me up (from my sickbed) immensely!

  2. No green on St. Patrick’s Day! Shame on you, hee hee!

I tend to forget about visiting places nearby. Here in the Dallas area, there are many tourist attractions, and I have not seen most of them; your visit to Hollywood, a slight 20-minute drive from you, has inspired me to consider visiting some local attractions, now that the weather is getting so nice here. Your photos add so much to your content; I love them!

  3. Glad you’re having fun!! The pictures are lovely and they sure make me wish I was there!! Don’t worry about not wearing green on St. Pat’s! Your sister didn’t either — maybe because neither one of us has any Irish blood coursing thru our veins!! (But I do love the Irish coutryside!! So I guess it works out!!) Anyways, keep jonesing and perhaps the next time we come to Florida, I can tear myself away from the amusement parks!! (I did say “perhaps!!, right??)
